Giancarlo Zema Design Group has revealed plans for a solar powered, multi purpose sports centre for Tripoli, Libya.

Called the ‘Desert Flower’, and scheduled for completion in 2017, the sporting centre will be the first of its kind in the country and feature a variety of sporting facilities, including a 40,000-seat auditorium.

Giancarlo Zema Design Group has reportedly indicated that 40,000 square metres of solar paneling will be installed on the centre’s large aluminium panel roof, generating an estimated 3.2 MW of electricity, while recyclable materials and cross-ventilation will also be integrated into the design to help minimise the building’s environmental impact.
